RoHS Certificate of Compliance
EU Directives 2011/65/EU and 2015/863 restrict the use of the 10 substances below in the manufacture of specified types of electrical equipment.
Whilst this restriction does not legally apply to components, it is recognised that component “compliance” is relevant to many customers.
RS definition of RoHS Compliance:
- The product does not contain any of the restricted substances in concentrations and applications banned by the Directive,
- and for components, the product is capable of being worked on at the higher temperatures required by lead–free soldering
The restricted substances and maximum allowed concentrations in the homogenous material are, by weight:
Substance | Concentration |
Lead | 0.1% |
Mercury | 0.1% |
PBB (Polybrominated Biphenyls) | 0.1% |
PBDE ( Polybrominated Diphenyl Ethers) | 0.1% |
Hexavalent Chromium | 0.1% |
Cadmium | 0.01% |
DEHP (Bis (2-Ethylhexl) phthalate) | 0.1% |
BBP (Benzyl butyl phthalate) | 0.1% |
DBP (Dibutyl phthalate) | 0.1% |
DIBP (Diisobutyl phthalate) | 0.1% |
The supplier of the item listed below has informed RS Components that the product is "RoHS Compliant".
RS Components has taken all reasonable steps to confirm this statement. Information relates only to products sold on or after the date of this certificate.

687-557 - 110-piece Zinc Plated Spring kit containing Compression Springs and Extension Springs
Types of Spring:
Compression springs also referred to as coil springs are very popular as they can store a large amount of energy in a small space making them ideal for a great range of uses. Coiled springs are designed so they can push back to the springs original height when they are compressed. These springs have varying degrees of stiffness which is also known as spring rate and are used to keep components from meeting.
Extension springs are like compression springs but have hooks or loops at either end and the springs expand or stretch when the load is applied to each end.
A torsion spring is designed to be twisted, unlike a compression spring which is designed to be compressed and an extension spring which is designed to be extended.
Kit Contents:
523-008 - Kit 1 Light Duty Containing 378 small springs:
6 each of 30 different compression springs

Typical Applications:
Spring kits are ideal as they contain popular springs which can be used in a wide range of applications.
Compression springs are a very popular spring and can be used in a number of different industries. This type of spring can be used in
ball point pens, vehicles, mobile phones and values.
Extension spring applications include garage doors, trampolines, white goods and tools.
Torsion springs have a tightening or twisting force and applications for these springs include counterbalance weights in garage doors, digital cameras, mouse traps and vehicle suspension.
