This includes the clear indication of escape routes and exit doors, together with the provision of emergency lighting where appropriate.

The Health and Safety (Safety Signs and Signals) Regulations state that the intrinsic features of emergency escape or fire exit safety signs are:
Environmentally friendly and durable
1.2mm Polypropolene
A rectangle or square shape
A white pictogram on a green background (the green part to take up at least 50% of the area of the sign)
The regulations also state that all fire exit safety signs must contain a symbol e.g. a running man. Supplementary text only signs (e.g. FIRE EXIT) can be included on a sign or used in conjuction with a symbol sign but cannot be used without a symbol.
